Outdoor luminous OWL Lantern

After completing the frosted glass candle holders the other day, I was so excited to start another project using it. As I was about to take out the recyclables I saw two empty spaghetti sauce glass jars. I new instantly that I could use them, so instead of the recycle bin, they went back to the kitchen to get cleaned up.

I decided that these would make great outdoor lanterns for Halloween. Remember the owl and bats that were on my candle holders? I thought I would stick with the same theme, but I needed them to be slightly larger so I just did my best job trying to copy them onto a piece of paper to make a stencil.
I taped the stencil on the glass and started frosting. This time, after the frosting was complete, I decided it needed something more, so I painted the owl and bat silhouette with stained glass paint. This was my first time working with this stuff, and I am hooked! Now, not only will I be looking for stuff to frost, but also to paint.

Here ya have it, recycled spaghetti jar turned luminous owl lantern.

What do you think? Did you notice the eyes? I used a self adhesive diamond sticker. The owls eyes are red, which is hard to tell from the picture.

Hi Shannon,
Those lanterns are very cute. You could add a wire around the top and hang them, too. The possiblities are really endless with a project like that, aren't they. Great, now I have something else to add to my "I want to try that" list!
Thanks for stopping by my site, hope you'll come back soon!
